Sarah Janavicius

We welcomed in the new year and decade with an interesting demonstration by Sarah Janavicius, a well-known local artist, who showed us examples of the collection of collages she has created over the many years of her practise.

She showed us how she built up her pictures from a graphic pencil drawing. She then selected a wide variety of coloured, textured papers to build up a background which is suitable for her subject, before adding the main details of the picture. Much of the work is inspired by walks in nature, at various times of the day and the year. Also her photography helps achieve the results which inspired much admiration.

Birds, fishes and animals were shown to us in her pictures and she has had many successful exhibitions, where she has achieved high acclaim. She teaches and holds workshops to encourage others to try this exciting method of making a picture.
