We are finally back after lockdown
Portrait Group

Portraits sessions have started again. We are a small group distancing and observing all precautions to stay safe. At present we are trying different pictures of our own choosing. It is good to meet up with old friends in a peaceful environment.

Mark Warner - Zoom meeting

Bedford Art Society had the first meeting of the Autumn season on Zoom. It was very successful and the artist, Mark Warner, gave us a very clear and interesting demonstration on a waterscape of a Welsh coastal scene. He began by telling us how he prepared the paper, with his choice of colours for the sea, sky and rocks. He looks for shapes in the scene before he plots his picture, and then he sketches it out, laying down the colours for the parts of the land and sea surfaces.

After putting the paint on the paper, he refined the parts of the clouds, waves and rocks with defining points, giving a wide variety of textures to the picture. The final seascape made the viewer want to find the area and explore its nooks and crannies in the summer-time. You could almost smell the seaweed.

Note - Mark has said he will send a photo of the finished painting when complete.

Some of the comments made from the Zoom meet

“Just a quickie to say thank you to all those involved in setting up the Zoom for last night. I was a bit late in joining, but glad I did and it made for an entertaining and instructive evening.”

“Well done for organizing last night’s session. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Though I need a more comfortable seat for the next one.”

“Just a quick note to say thank you all for tonight's meeting. It went really well and was thoroughly enjoyable. Mark looked and sounded relaxed, as did some of our members who seemed to drift off at the end.....

It was enjoyable, sooner we were together but this was close.”
